A Great Honor
We would like to announce a special title given to LakeShore Bicycles & Fitness. As said in a press release, the Florida Bicycle Association (FBA), has named LakeShore Bicycles & Fitness the Florida Bicycle Store Advocate of the Year. The award was given on May 12, 2010, and will be recieved on May 18, 2010 at the NFBC meeting. The local branch of the FBA has done a series of Traffic Skills 101 classes in the store, including one that will be held on June 12, 2010. Not only does the FBA deserve a great thank you, but you do too. We could not do it without you and all of the various and very supportive cycling groups and organizations throughout Northeast Florida. LakeShore Bicycles & Fitness has been referred to as "the great one since '61" because we have been the leader in local bike stores since 1961. Everyone, please remember to have a great and safe National Bicycle Month.

Join cyclists worldwide in a silent, slow paced ride (max.12 m.p.h.) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling in public roadways.
Cyclists wil take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured. Although cyclists have the legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of cyclists themselves.
The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks it's cyclists to ride no faster than 12 m.p.h. and remain silent during the ride. There are no sponsors and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during bike safety month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police, and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also to show respect for those who have been injured and killed.

About LakeShore Bicycles & Fitness
LakeShore Bicycle & Fitness is proud to have been serving Jacksonville since 1961. LakeShore is named for the part of Jacksonville we are located in. Originally the shop sold bicycles, lawnmowers, and included a locksmith. In the mid 1970's the store relocated to it's current location and became one of the original Schwinn Concept Stores. The lawnmowers disappeared.

Accessory Category #9: Pumps
Pumps - Everyone needs two pumps. You should have a floor pump in the garage and one to carry with you when you venture farther than you wish to walk home. Along with pumps, we have a large selection of co2 inflators and everything you need to fix a flat tire in large and portable sizes.

Accessory Category #8: Jerseys
Jerseys - Jerseys are about more than looking good. They start with a technical fabric that wicks the persperation to the outside layer. As the persperation is evaporated it cools you. In the winter, this wicking keeps you drier and reduces the chance of hypothermia. The jerseys are also cut for your riding position to be more comfortable and have a long tail to cover the gap when you are bent over. We have jerseys for road, mountian and recumbent riders.

Our line of 3G Bikes are assembled better than any other beach cruiser dealers in town. Our mechanics safety and comfort check every bicycle they put together rather than having some inexperienced person throw it together.

Accessory Category #6: Lights
Lights - We have a large selection of lights to make you visible or to light up the trail on a moonless night. Florida law requires a front light, a taillight and a rear reflector to ride on the road after sunset. We carry these, as well as reflective tape and vests. Ask about our Knog lights for simple lighting.

Accessory Category #5: Hydration
Hydration - This is important for your health as well as enjoyment while bicycling. We can help with everything from basic waterbottles and cages to backpack hydration systems. We also have Camelbacks for on the go.
Thursday, March 18, 2010
Accessory Category #4: Shorts
Shorts - Safety? Well maybe not, but they protect you from discomfort. Bicycling shorts are worn as an additional layer of skin (no underwear). The idea is that they stick to you and the movement will be between the shorts and saddle and chaffing will be prevented. We also recommend a chamois lube for greater comfort.
