About LakeShore Bicycles & Fitness

LakeShore Bicycle & Fitness is proud to have been serving Jacksonville since 1961. LakeShore is named for the part of Jacksonville we are located in. Originally the shop sold bicycles, lawnmowers, and included a locksmith. In the mid 1970's the store relocated to it's current location and became one of the original Schwinn Concept Stores. The lawnmowers disappeared.

Shoes & Pedals - These are not just for professional racers. We also stock shoes and pedals for the casual bicyclist and commuter. Shoes not only increase performance, they also increase comfort, making bicycling more fun so you will want to go out more often and try greater distances. Our different pedals can be used for different reasons. We will help you choose the kind fit just for you.

Accessory Category #11: Tools

Tools- Bicycles are transportation vehicles and do need service and adjustment. Whether you just want basic allen wrenches for adjusting seats and handlebars, or you wish to have your own service area that rivals ours, we can fix you up!

Park Tools- "True" Tune-up Class by Marc Coutu

This class covers the most basic maintenance procedures and assumes participants have no previous experience. Students bring their own (clean) bikes and will learn how to change a flat tire, adjust brakes, gears and all bearing surfaces, along with basic trouble shooting. You will also learn the basics of how to true a wheel. The $35.00 class fee includes all of these benefits.

The class location will be at LakeShore Bicycles & Fitness, 2108 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32210, (904) 388-0612 and will be held on April 22, 2010 from 6 pm to 8 pm.

This class will be taught by Marc Coutu, who has worked in the bicycle industry for over twenty years. Marc has worked at LakeShore Bicycles & Fitness for over 6 years.

Car Racks - After you have checked out everything around home, you will want to find some sweet rides in other areas. We have racks in stock to fit most cars. Whether you just need to carry one bike or a bunch, we can outfit you for an adventure. Let us explain the advantages of the many different types of racks for you car. We also order and install for you.

Accessory Category #9: Pumps

Pumps - Everyone needs two pumps. You should have a floor pump in the garage and one to carry with you when you venture farther than you wish to walk home. Along with pumps, we have a large selection of co2 inflators and everything you need to fix a flat tire in large and portable sizes.

Accessory Category #8: Jerseys

Jerseys - Jerseys are about more than looking good. They start with a technical fabric that wicks the persperation to the outside layer. As the persperation is evaporated it cools you. In the winter, this wicking keeps you drier and reduces the chance of hypothermia. The jerseys are also cut for your riding position to be more comfortable and have a long tail to cover the gap when you are bent over. We have jerseys for road, mountian and recumbent riders.

Computers - These are great for motivation and as training tools to improve your cycle performance. We have basic computers that give you speed and distance or advanced computers that read heartrate, elevation, cadence or anything else you can dream up. We can order what YOU want!

3G Bike Cruisers

Our line of 3G Bikes are assembled better than any other beach cruiser dealers in town. Our mechanics safety and comfort check every bicycle they put together rather than having some inexperienced person throw it together.

Accessory Category #1: Helmets

Helmets - We carry helmets by Specialized. All of their helmets are independently tested by the SNELL Memorial Foundation or TNO Certification BV. They pass all of the following standards:CPSC, SNELL B-90, B-90C, B95, CE, EN1078(european),AS/NZS 2063(Australia, New zeealand). These are well tested helmets. They are also good looking, comfortable, and worn by many professional cycling teams.

Accessory Category #3: Gloves

Gloves - Yes gloves are a safety item. Anytime you think you are in danger, putting your hands out is the first line of defense. Gloves also help with any numbness you may have from riding. This is the main function of your gloves. We carry a variaty of gloves to choose from.

Accessory Category #2: Locks

Locks - Having something stolen is a bummer. We have all types of locks to keep you from being seperated from your bike. Whether you need a basic set, your own combo lock to run into the convenient store, or you have to lock it all day while at work or school, we have the lock you need.

Traffic Skills 101

March 27th - Learn safe and confident bicycling. Become familiar with laws covering bicycling as well as your bike equipment, including gears, fixing flats, injury prevention, crash avoidance, on-bike skills practice and top it off with a group ride. Classes recommended for adults and children over 14 years of age. Cost: $35 covers both days. Contact Jodi Hohlstein, 904-282-2180, or email jodi@FBAfirstcoast.org for complete registration packet. Class is limited to 17 students.

Saturday Morning Ride

We have started a Saturday morning fun ride at 9:00 am. This is geared for beginners. We will ride as a group so no one feels left behind. We enjoy teaching safety skills and group riding skills. Mark Fetzer will be the primary ride leader. Ride distance will not exceed 20-25 miles at a speed of less than 14 mph. It starts from the store. For directions to the store click here.

Bicycle Garage Sale

On March 20, 2010 in conjunction with the Lakeshore Area Preservation Society we will host a Bicycle Swap Meet and Flea Market. This will be on Bayview Ave. directly across from our store. Go through all your cycling gear and decide what you will never use again. You can set up your own booth or bring if by the shop the week before we will sell your under used equipment and let you spend it in the shop as a store credit. Only from 8am to 2pm.

Some of you may have been to our store and met us, or seen us on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Others however, are probably completely new to the concept of our store. We are family owned and operated, and have been around since 1961. We have a huge selection of bikes, accessories, fitness equipment, and clothing. We also repair bikes and fitness equipment. Service is our only product. Some types of bikes that we sell include road, hybrid, mountain, beach cruiser, and BMX.
