Cyclist Survival Classes

Our recent Bicyclist Survival Classes were a smash hit.  We had 14 people sign up and take the classes taught by our ace mechanic, Steve Niblick.  During the two sessions, the students learned valuable skills sets to keep them on the road mechanically and some tips on rider safey.  The next class starts Thursday, December 2nd and is limited to 10 students so sign up early.

Great news from the ADA Tour De Cure

We received this exciting news from the American Diabeties Assoc. and want you to be the 1st to know about it.

"Take the ride of your life with Jacksonville's 7th anniversary Tour de Cure! Forces beyond our control have come together and necessitated a change for Tour de Cure 2011 in Jacksonville. Since TPC moved from Mother’s Day Weekend and now finishes May 15, 2011, we cannot secure the police support for the route due to this change to keep you safe, nor do we want to put you anywhere near TPC traffic, etc. at any time during Tour weekend. If we can’t ensure your safety, we don’t have a ride. In addition, the Hilton Garden Hotel, the Hampton Inn and the Castillo Real, the nicest of Tour de Cure’s hotels have mandated a two-night minimum for 2011, a change we have fought, but lost. We don’t think you should have to pay that much to support a charity event and we feel this is very short-sighted on the part of St. Augustine business owners.

SO… what does this mean? Well, we believe it means GREAT upgrades for you! Since the top 10 Tours in the nation are all 1-day Tours, we can make the change now to take Jax Tour to 1 day and perhaps give you even more than you ever dreamed of, as a result!

Here’s why we've moved to May 21, 2011:

A 1-day Tour allows is to provide more route options so the whole family can participate on the same day! We'll have:

10-mile Family Health Ride

30-miles

70-mile

100-mile Challenge Century

With routes that all go out and back from one location, we can offer you more perks, entertainment and spend more on great food and drink for when you finish.

You spend less to do a charity event and can focus on fundraising… in this economy, we can’t justify taking you somewhere that will cost you more than it has in the past! "

Thank You

Over the last several months we have had tons of events. If you went to any of them you know that they were all fantastic. To make those events so fun though there are many men and women working before, during, and after the events, behind the scenes. Because these people are behind the scenes they very rarely get thanked. We would like to thank everyone that was working to make our experience great. We have listed some of the events and organizers below.

*Also, a special thanks to the girls from Bike MS for the breakfast!

All of these organizers deserve to be thanked. We realize that there are a few events that we did not recognize. If you would like them thanked also, just leave comment below.

Recumbents

We have a huge selection of recumbent bicycles ready and built for you to find the perfect one. A lot of people don't know what a recumbent is so we included pictures of what we have and can order. There are different styles also, the kind you have probably seen the most often with three wheels, and stranger ones with two wheels.
This is an EZ-3 SX Tadpole made by Sun.

This is an E1 SX Ergonomic Recumbent made by Sun.

Tricycle Recumbents:
These are available in two handlebar styles. One has the handlebars low and to your side, while the other has the handlebars in front of you like in any bicycle.
An example of the handlebars at side.

An example of the handlebars at normal height.

The recumbents with handlebars at side have two wheels in front and one wheel in back. On the tricycle recumbents with handlebars at normal height there are two wheels on the back and one wheel in the front.

Bicycle Recumbents:
Bicycle recumbents have the handlebars at standard level and have gears.
The EZ-Sport CX by Sun.

All recumbents come with multiple gears. There are many reasons to ride a recumbent. The most common reason is for comfort after an injury. If you come into the store we will give advice on how to ride and fit the bike for you.

LakeShore Bicycle & Fitness is proud to have been serving Jacksonville since 1961. LakeShore is named for the part of Jacksonville we are located in. Originally the shop sold bicycles, lawnmowers, and included a locksmith. In the mid 1970's the store relocated to it's current location and became one of the original Schwinn Concept Stores.
